Export a vertical video without adding black side bars

Preserve the source aspect ratio and choose suitable framing for portrait videos and Reels.

For version 0.31.262 · Interface and features may change during beta.

01

Check the source shape

A video filmed in portrait usually needs a portrait frame. Exporting it into a landscape frame without cropping leaves unused space at the sides. Before exporting, check whether the whole project is portrait or mixes portrait and landscape footage.

02

Choose source aspect preservation

In Export, choose source aspect preservation to match the output frame to the source. The output ratio is based on the first visible V1 source. For example, a 9:16 source stays 9:16; a quality setting changes resolution without requiring a landscape frame.

03

Handle mixed footage deliberately

A single exported file cannot use a different frame shape for every clip. For mixed ratios, choose a common frame and review each clip. Manual reframing can fill the screen but may crop image content. Bars already encoded into the source file are not removed automatically.

04

Check framing and captions

Export a short sample and view it on your phone. Check that faces, logos and captions fit within the frame and important details are not cut off. Source aspect preservation keeps the frame shape; added layers still need a placement check.
